The National Institute of Emergency Medical Services (NIEMS) is a founding member and sponsor of the National Research Consortium for Emergency Medical Services (NRC-EMS). Research conducted by consortium members is to be funded primarily through corporate, foundation, and government sponsorship. Institutional members of the NRC-EMS will use donations and grants from its sponsors to investigate biomedical, clinical, and epidemiological issues affecting the quality of emergency medical care. Of specific interest to the Consortium is pre-hospital care provided by ambulance personnel. Established institutions and universities that specialize in medical research are invited to join the Consortium.
